Championship Week

Too many sports going on to not write about. First, The NBA Finals. Game 1 was less interesting than expected with the Heat going on to win 92 to 84. But, however, the second game of the series was much more interesting. The Dallas Mavericks led by as many as 9 in the first half and almost went into the locker room at halftime with a lead. But the Miami Heat came back to tie the Mavs at half 51-51. In the second half, and especially in the 4th quarter, the Heat had a lead of 15 points with 6 minutes left to go in the game. Not to be blown out, the Mavericks went on a 20-2 scoring run and led by 3 with 30 seconds left. The Heat tied it up at 93 apiece with less than 10 seconds left. But the superstar Dirk Nowitzki scored the game winning layup with 3.6 seconds left on the clock and the Heat would have no answer. With the series tied 1-1, the teams will travel to Dallas and play 3 games on the Maverick's home court.

The second champion series that kicked off this week is the NHL Stanley Cup. Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins will play the best of 7 game series to determine who wins the Stanley Cup this season. The game Wednesday was seemingly boring as no goals were scored in the first 59 minutes (of 60). As I watched the game it was very easy to get distracted and surf the Internet. But for those who stuck around, they were treated to a game winning goal with 20 seconds left. Who scored the goal? Why, the underdog Canucks of course! Very riveting television and can't wait till game two.

And finally, the last but not least sport that is having a championship this week is that of tennis. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the French Open is also going on this week. The semi-finals are being played later today (Friday), and consist of the top four players in the world. In order, 1) Rafael Nadal, 2) Novak Djokovic, 3) Roger Federer, and finally the Englishman, 4) Andy Murray. Nadal will face off against Murray and Djokovic will look to continue his 41 match win streak against Federer.

My predictions?
1. Mavericks in game 3
2. Bruins in game 2
3. Nadal and Djokovic to the finals

  7. I'm all about the Mavs. We almost always play better at home. Also, there are too many Dallasites to let down.
